巴黎小皇宮與大皇宮相對, 都是1900年萬國博覽會展場, 曾獲建築設計獎, 室內空間分布也別於當時建築. 政府為推行人人享受文化, 常設館免費入場. 如一般巴黎皇宮, 中庭花園賞心悅目, 怡情養性. 宮內收藏重要畫作, 雕塑, 家具, 動物標本 ...等. Courbet 的 Sleepers 收藏於其中, 受浪漫主義與巴洛克風格影響, 作品描繪女性同性戀性行為發生後的休憩, 也同時呼應當時的流行文化. 在1872年展出, 收藏家因購買而被警察質詢調查.
